The main event that took place in Mexico City featured a Heavyweight Title Unification bout between the Champion Cain Valasquez and interim Champ Fabricio Werdum.

Velasquez is a first-generation American born of Mexican immigrant parents, and Brazilian Werdum speaks fluent Spanish and hosts much of the UFC’s programming in Mexico and has earned his fair share of fans south of the border. Both spent time In Mexico City to acclimate to the high elevation. Werdum trained longer in the elevation, and it showed. He was able to best Velasquez via submission (guillotine) two minutes into round three.
